Getting Some Traffic

I spent the last couple days promoting the new video on a variety of Forums which has generated a bit of traffic.

But I also managed to get a mention on Kotaku:

This has really increased Lunar Flights exposure to the world and a big thankyou to Kotaku and Luke for that.

So hi everyone, thankyou for stopping by and a big thankyou to everyone that has made a donation today.

I will be sending out an email to everyone that has donated to be able to download and try out the latest build.

[UPDATE]

Ok I emailed all contributors so far this morning using the email address that is registered with your Paypal accounts, happy flying!

Features Overview & Flight Tutorial

In this latest video I talk about the current features of the game including a breakdown of the Interface, Cockpit/HUD and Navigation system. If you watch to the end you will see a demonstration of the Achievements being rewarded.

The video is also a kind of Flight Training Tutorial.

Please watch it in Fullscreen… 🙂

Pilot Experience

I’ve added in Experience now that contributes to your Rank during your Career. Experience is earned by doing Missions, Time Trials & Achievements. You can view your current Rank and Experience as well as how much you need to get the next Rank in the Pilot Profile page of the menu. A splash screen and sound plays when you are promoted.

Other changes are custom GUI skin buttons, new thrust plume effect and it is now possible to click on the functional cockpit switches, Transponder, Thrust Lock & Navpoint Selector.

All these things can be viewed in the new video below…

Unity Pro License Acquired!

I recently decided to buy the Unity Pro License to avoid having to pay more for it in the event that the Australian dollar drops in value against the US dollar.

I am still accepting donations to help recover the cost and donations of $5 or more still are entitled to a copy of the game.

I have also received approval for Publishing on Desura but need to finish preparing the site information there before progressing into a closed Beta.

Here is a video demonstrating the latest version using Unity Pros image effects Bloom and Depth of Field as well as Cascade Shadow Maps on the Lunar Module.

It’s best to watch this fullscreen to be able to see the effects without compression.

A Donation…

Today Lunar Flight received its first donation towards the Unity Pro License. Thanks Leonard you are a champion!

A Unity Pro License costs $1500 US

Lunar Flight has so far been developed using the Free version of Unity, with Unity Pro it will give Lunar Flight a much needed boost in the visual department allowing for:

  • Custom Splash Screen
  • Realtime Shadows
  • Fullscreen Post Processing
  • Render To Texture
  • Occlusion Culling
  • Light Mapping with Global Illumination
  • Deferred Rendering

Anyone that donates $5 or more will be entitled to a Free Copy of Lunar Flight once it is released.

Lunar Flight WordPressed

I was never happy with the ‘quality’ of the old site as I’m sure anyone else’s eyes would attest to, so I thought it was about time to get something a little more professional looking.

I’m still learning how to get the most out of WordPress but so far it seems pretty cool!

Recently I started to prepare Lunar Flight for prime time and have chosen Desura as the first Digital Distribution candidate. Desura is part of IndieDB and ModDB and you can already find Lunar Flight listed on those sites. I need to find some time to get all the information updated there. I’ll be looking to get it approved on there so I can begin to build the community and start a closed beta test and eventually make it available for sale.

I have also been recruiting some guys to help out with some testing and feedback from SimHQ and Space Flight Forum and those guys have been trying out the latest v0.96c version.

Finally here is the last video demonstration of v0.96, complete with Youtube annotations to describe what’s happening.
